As new parents, my husband and I came to Whittier CA from Ohio to be closer to family.  It was February 1971, two days before the huge Sylmar earthquake.  We had no idea what was happening when our bed was rocking and rolling at 6 a.m. that fateful day.  God got our attention that morning.

We moved to an apartment that was close to Biola University and lived next door to 2 Biola students who befriended our little family.  “Auntie Barbara” and  “Aunt Jeanne” had a Talbot friend would visit often and became “Uncle Doug” to our son.  These 3 neighbors had such a positive influence on us that when they invited us to a nearby church, we were happy to attend.  The gospel message was clearly presented through the ministry of Granada Hts. Friends Church and clearly seen in the lives of the 3 students.

We accepted Jesus Christ within a few days of each other and our friends mentored and ministered to us new Christians for many years.  I thank God for how He used Biola people in my life and am thankful to be working in a place that “is biblically-centered education, scholarship, and service—equipping men and women in mind and character to impact the world for the Lord Jesus Christ.”  Barbara, Jeanne and Doug, our friends, certainly impacted our world.  Thanks for letting me share.
